The Recurring Dream

      -A story from England

This story 'The Recurring Dream' starts with a description of Kimberly Clark, the main character of the story, who is 25 years old woman with all qualities of a normal young woman. She is pretty, she loves to dance, and she has many friends. She has a good position in her office of a large company. Despite these all qualities, she has a problem because she has been troubled by a strange and mysterious recurring dream that haunts her every night.

The mysterious dream always begins on a country road in an unknown city. Kim stands on the road and sees a lane with a white fence and a hedge on each side. At the end of the lane, on the top of a hill, she sees a small white cottage house with green shutters. Then she further walks up the lane to the house. She goes inside the house and looks around. In one of the rooms, she finds a man asleep in bed. He is a little old man with white hair and a white beard. When Kim comes near his bed, the man wakes up then he sits up and looks at her. When Kim tries to speak to the old man, she wakes up. She was very surprised and troubled by the dream because she had never known any little old man like that and neither the place anywhere.

Kim's roommate Jannet knows everything about her problem but she did not believe the story of Kim's dream. Jannet thought it happened because of her work pressure. So, one day she asked Kim to visit her parents' farmhouse to refresh her mind. As they pass through a country road, Kim sees a similar scene that she had seen in her dream. Kim asked Jannet to stop the car and they stopped there. Janet does not want Kim to go and see because she feels that it is unsafe to stay in an unknown place but Kim goes.

The house was exactly the same, except for a sign in front of the house which has  'FOR SALE' written on board. Like her dream, Kim goes to the door of the cottage house which was coloured as a green shutter and knocks on the door. She was so surprised because the same old man opens the door. After seeing her he immediately closes the door. After Kim's request, he opens the door again. Kim asks the old man why the house is for sale. The old man reveals that the house is haunted by a ghost. She tries hard to think to say something. But she asked who is the ghost. The old man gets surprised and says her the ghost was Kim herself and the story ends.
